Open Your Eyes by Nada Adel Sobhi– Poem

Shackled in the confines of my mind,
The pain lingers, warming itself,
In its new vessel: Me.

Shrouded in blackness, eyes stare blind,
I know there is a mirror before me,
But the reflection – likely grim – is not for me to see.

I try to move, but something holds me back,
Bound, incarcerated in my own mind,
I scream
But my screams are lost in the whirlpool of my head.

I struggle to open my eyes
What has glued them shut?
I howl as the skin tears apart

They open

But to what end…
Darkness reigns free
Stretching endlessly

Ahead, around, below, beyond,
My mind mocks me, torments me.
The morbid bastard!

I curse it
But my words are hollow
Ricocheting on the walls

I am nothing
Staring in the abyss of time.
Life wasted, useless.

I cry.

Tears stream down my face,
Warm against the frigidness,
They embrace me in a cocoon

I close my eyes,
Red and green circles cloud my vision,
I count them, arrange them; damned OCD

I wonder
Who or what has caused this…
This trauma?

Was I traumatised?
How? When?
Questions. Questions.

I cover my head with my hands
"Stop asking and rise up
Open your eyes and welcome the light"

The words ring in my ear
Who said them?
I ignore my own question

I shut my eyes. Hard.
I'm scared.
A coward.

Have I become my own victim?

I shake my head,
I hear, feel
My shackles on the floor.

I may not be strong
But I can get up

I will not be any embodiment
Of all that is good,
That crap they say.

But I will rise.
And face my demons.

I open my eyes.

I asked friends for a word bank and this is one of the word banks that came through.

Demons of the Mind by Nada Adel Sobhi - Flash Fiction

Darkness attacks my senses, my mind can't break free from the invading blackness. My breath freezes in mid-air and worse mid-mind. I fear my brain will forget to tell my lungs to breathe.

Sitting in the darkness, I ponder where I am.

A howl pierces the surrounding silence. Then more follow.

I close my eyes, but what difference does it make? It's too dark anyways. I feel a hot breath behind me, even though I could have sworn I felt a wall against my back.

Tears run down my face, sweat down my arms and neck. I'm freezing. My body is cold; anxiety is threatening to shatter my bones. But worse, fear.

My teeth clatter. I feel the breath again followed by howls and barks.

Rabid dogs?

I scratch my arms in attempt to wake up from this nightmare, but I bleed and I'm still there.

"P-Please, please, anyone help me!" I scream in my mind, but the words only come out as a mere whisper.

I try to move away from the wall, but the howling surrounds me. Then I see them.

White and yellow eyes shining in the black expanse before me. I'm not blind, but I wish I were.

They're coming for me… I have nowhere to run, no energy to fight.

Fear eats at me.

They enjoy it. I can see their eyes glitter with malice at me.

I scream. Over and over.

My mouth is parched, my voice almost non-existent.

To whom am I screaming? Who will answer me here? Where is here?

"P-Please!"

Then they leap at me. Beasts from the netherworld. I feel them tearing my limbs.

**

"Dr. Ambrose, I believe the patient has suffered another episode. This one seems to have been fatal."

"I believe you're right. The patient's condition was more advanced that we thought." Dr. Ambrose rubbed his chin. "What puzzles me is the blood. How did he end up like that?"

The two physicians stood observing the body, scarlet covering the torso, neck and arms. Beastly scratches spread across the face and neck. A bloody mess, in a padded, confined room, where patients would supposedly be unable to hurt themselves.

Searching for the Fire

My fire is faltering,
My soul smouldering
But into a failing haze
Not a bright flagrant blaze

Foggy eyes despite the light
Tear-blurred vision,
A faltering will to fight,
No choice, no decision

The bells chime
As the cage door unseals;
It's time for the mountain climb
But there I stand; from progress I reel.

***

Darkness soothes me,
But not this kind,
For there are two.
I'm stuck in stale darkness,
Not fluid and free

I need air
To blow me away
I need fire
To burn it all into oblivion
To keep me warm
Amidst sight-blurring change

I need…

To become me once again.

Darkness & Light

A faint glimmer
In the distance,
Metallic it appears,
Capable of resistance.

Dark shadows loom,
A suppressed sun struggles
Against the gloom;
The metal begins to bloom.

The forces of darkness gather,
But light resists,
Several faint glimmers coming together;
The light persists.

In this sea of black and in contempt,
The sun gathers all its might in one final attempt,
Exploding in a dance of light,
The metal reflects it and shines bright.

A connection has been made,
Between the earth and sky;
Now the light will never fade,
Nor will it ever die.

This poem is inspired by this week's prompt SILVER. It is five sentences long ;)
