Offering - FSF

I extend my hand to you, palm open. You welcome my gesture, readily, immediately accepting.

Leaves fall, seasons change, in a heartbeat. I extend my hand and you always accept with a smile on your face.

But when I turn my back, you aim and stab then return to your old position, smile in my face and extend your hand in a friendly shake.

This piece is for this week's five-sentence fiction prompt "Offering". It is also inspired by a dear friend's actual events.

The Map of Love by Nada Adel Sobhi - Poem

Lines upon lines
In an endless sea
Of beauty…

The wind calls to me,
Hails my name,
As it blows on my face.

I navigate the water
In search of your heart,
Your soul, You.

I hear your voice
On the wind,
In the current.

Call to me,
Guide me
On our map of love.

Unbeatable - FSF - Doors

The Wind beat mercilessly on the castle walls. It hurled and thrust trying to tear it down. It howled and roared but the ancient building stood as strong and as resilient as ever.

Angrier, the Wind hurled an army of pebbles and stones against the mighty fortress.

But to no avail; the castle would not fall or falter before any enemy, natural or unnatural.

This is my entry for this week's five-sentence fiction prompt which is "DOORS". This is my first time attempting to NOT to use the prompt itself in the piece.

As always, comments and shares are appreciated.
If you're participating in this week's contest, post your link - and comment - below and I will gladly return the favour.

Black and Green

I had never seen grass so green before. My hard work in the city had left me tired and dreary; but seeing such grass made life surge through me once again.

Joe removed the saddle and reins and I ran and galloped and pranced. This is the life; the life a horse could ever want.

My black coat glittered against the green grass and I heard Joe say "Black Beauty indeed!"

This week's five-sentence fiction prompt is "freedom" and I had just finished watching my all-time favourite movie "Black Beauty".
Comments and shares are highly appreciated.

Routine Change

At last my routine will change!

I may grow lazy but I feel I have been given this opportunity to finally work hard on improving myself and on doing all the things I have been postponing for months.

I will certainly read more. Write more. I have to write more!

I have several books on writing that I need to read and use their exercises to prompt my own writing. I’ll try to challenge myself more with the weekly #Visdare, five-sentence fiction, and Flash Friday! contests.

I will certainly continue to work on finding a new job but in the meantime I’ll take some time to relax, work out, enjoy life, go out, spend more time with family and friends and did I mention read more? ;)
And I will certainly get back to blogging twice to thrice per week.

I have never been so excited in my life!

Thank you God, for everything!

The City of Sobek

A city stood here once. Its northern temple stood tall to the north, its southern one rested on a lower footing. Karanis the ancient city was called.

The half-human, half-beast god dwelt here. Sobek, they called him and worshipped him to keep his vicious teeth at bay.
But did the half-crocodile-god accept their prayers and gifts?

This piece is an entry for this week's five-sentence fiction prompt: RUINS hosted by Lillie McFerrin
I took these pictures in February 2014 in Fayyoum in the city of Karanis, where the crocodile-god Sobek was worshipped more than 1,500 years ago.

Sunken City

With no cloud in sight, the sun shone bright, its rays penetrating the crystal blue water of the Mediterranean Sea.

Ela sprung from the water, catching the early warmth on her bare skin; the sea spread before her without a soul in sight. She inhaled the morning air and dived again, for a new day meant new places to be and new sites to see. She glided on the water heading straight to what her friends called The Sunken City.

As soon as her eyes caught glimpses of it, she realised her friends had every reason to gloat for it was beyond anything she had ever seen with huge red-rock statues of men in ancient garb and women carved from black stone; she remembered her father telling her tales of a mighty people who lived here centuries ago; they were called Pharaohs.

These images are taken from The Daily Mail's article on the discovery of the Sunken City of "Heracleion" near Alexandria, Egypt. The first is of the god Hapi and the second is of Isis.

This is my entry for this week's five-sentence fiction prompt: RUINS, hosted by Lillie McFerrin, who was kind enough to host my prompt this week.

Comments are highly appreciated.

Strength – 5SF

In a distant forest, vines cover an ancient fortress. Night and day, day and night, the rain hammers relentlessly. The Gothic structure stands strong against the merciless elements.

A princess locked within will burst forth one day as the sun bursts from amidst the clouds.

The land will live once again for though the future is dark, it is grey and shifting.

I made it late to last week's five-sentence fiction prompt by Lillie McFerrin. The prompt was "Strength".

Waiting White

White engulfs the world,
Bathing it in a sea of snow.
Magic crawls underneath,
Creating tiny cracks in the ice.
Even the clouds crowd together,
Dreaming of warmth.

No colour,
Near or far;
Nothing
To ease the heart.

And yet,
A fire burns within,
Waiting for the chance
To spread,
To breathe life
Into a frozen world.

Sparks of Life – FSF

They flew like crystal-coloured rain, showering the ground and disappearing as quickly as they had appeared. Flowers of fire igniting and fading over and over, never faltering.

Emma stood mesmerised by the never-ending sea of sparkles before her. They invigorated her, breathing life into a depressing day.

She took a deep breath and smiled to the blacksmith as he continued hammering a mighty sword.

Moon - FSF

This week's Five-Sentence Fiction (FSF) prompt is "Moon", hosted by Lillie McFerrin. Here is my piece:

The night is dark and winter is coming.

The words echoed in Maria’s head as her bare feet moved silently on the forest floor. She wrapped her shawl around her tightly; she was freezing but was not sure if it were the cold or the fact that she had no idea where she was.

The slightest sounds of wind rustling the trees or owls hooting in the distance terrified her even more. Worse though was when she thought she saw the moon shine ahead amidst the trees, she rushed to the possible source of warmth and light and instead found herself facing an impeccably beautiful white wolf that was just about to howl at the moon.

*The "winter is coming" part was inspired by The Game of Thrones series.

Darkness & Light

A faint glimmer
In the distance,
Metallic it appears,
Capable of resistance.

Dark shadows loom,
A suppressed sun struggles
Against the gloom;
The metal begins to bloom.

The forces of darkness gather,
But light resists,
Several faint glimmers coming together;
The light persists.

In this sea of black and in contempt,
The sun gathers all its might in one final attempt,
Exploding in a dance of light,
The metal reflects it and shines bright.

A connection has been made,
Between the earth and sky;
Now the light will never fade,
Nor will it ever die.

This poem is inspired by this week's prompt SILVER. It is five sentences long ;)

Once More - 5SF

Pieces of paper, pottery and glass littered the floor. The whole place was a mess. I guess that’s what happens when people rebel; they storm and rage regardless of place, forgetting all that is precious and beautiful.

Luckily, there are others.

Others willing to rebuild and restore, to create a world of beauty and life once more.

This piece is an entry for this week's Five-Sentence Flash Fiction Contest hosted by Lillie McFerrin.

Broken - 5SF

Your feet bleed as you enter the dark room. Broken glass litters the floor. In the faint light they would have appeared as pretty pearls and crystals. But that is not us, not anymore; just shards of a broken life, a dying love.

Before you is the outcome of my emotional storm.

This week's five-sentence prompt is "Pieces". I used the picture for a bit of inspiration.

Opposites Attract

As electrons and protons attract, so did they. When fire falls in love with water, the balance is shattered and pain and suffering ensue. The sun and moon can never linger long enough to ease each other’s longing. A tiger and a deer cannot be friends even if the tiger sees more to the deer than just food and fulfillment. So couldn’t they; she a woman and he a wild white wolf.

This is for this week's Five-Sentence Flash Fiction prompt that can be found here. The prompt is "magnetic".

Dancing Fairy - 5SF

I couldn’t see the sky, all I could see was her, the way she moved, walked, danced; a fairy on a bed of green grass.

Her bare feet on the ground, the leaves and trees swaying her way, endowing her with a crown of their making.

It was night – I think, but I saw no moon, only her face.

The air bore sweet music and the earth reverberated underneath her dancing feet.

Several times, she looked my way with a smile on her face; and each time my heart skipped several beats.

This week's prompt is Beauty. I had something that fit the prompt so I made minor amendments and posted it. This is for the Five-Sentence Flash Fiction Contest

Thunder - Five-Sentence Flash Fiction

This piece is for the Five Sentence Flash FictionContest. The prompt is “Thunder”.

thunder_clouds_by_alekparkour-d2yrlmn

Daylight darkened gradually but quickly as black clouds loomed overhead. Dew stood still embracing the scent of freshly-cut grass. A soft breeze ruffled her hair; she won’t have to wait long now. A thundering explosion resounded in the distance growing louder as an approaching beast. The lightning struck introducing the rain and announcing the beginning of her elemental dance.
